I need some help with some home remedies. My youngest is prone to ear infections so having a bunged up nose is not a good thing for him. For the last week and a half, he has had both a runny nose as well as a blocked one. It has now turned into a chesty cough. My problem is, the medicine isn't working, so I thought maybe someone might have a more effective remedy for him. Now bare in mind, he's only 7 years old so alcohol isn't an option.

This desperate mum would definitely appreciate your input.

  1. Have you tried nettie pots for him? I know with the sinus issues that I have they are a god send. Or even using natural menthol plants, crushing them and putting them in hot steaming water and then having him put a towel over his head and inhaling the steam?

    1. Nancy, What are nettie pots?
As for the steaming water, he won't stay still for that long unfortunately.

  2. My girls respond best to generic benedryl with their allergies while leads to all kinds of colds, etc. It helps to dry their sinuses up and helps alleviate coughs after awhile. Homeopathic medicine has helped them as well with these types of symptoms. They also use a dehumidifier which helps make them more comfortable while they sleep.

    1. Yes we've tried the humidifier and had little success. My mum ended up stealing it. Vicks works wonders on my other boy, but not my youngest.
